DARK FAE MASTERS OF ITALY
VAMPIRE FAE ROMANTASY • COMPLETE 5-BOOK SERIES
“He falls first” is the version of romance that hits hardest — not because the heroine is indifferent, but because the heroes’ certainty precedes her trust, and watching powerful, controlled men lose that control over a woman they can’t not love is one of fantasy romance’s most reliable satisfactions. Dark Fae Masters of Italy delivers it twice, with heroes whose certainty expresses itself differently because of who they are.
Quinn is a Master Vampire with centuries behind him — a man who has spent a very long time not needing anything from anyone. The Amazon series description is explicit: his devotion is “he-falls-first” quality. He turns against his Vampire Court to protect Ariana. Not because it’s strategically optimal. Because she matters and he can’t make that not true. His morally grey complexity makes this more interesting than a straightforward heroic sacrifice — he’s choosing her over institutions he built and controlled for centuries.
Lucca’s trajectory is different in texture: he’s royal, trained, accustomed to subordinating personal feeling to political strategy. Defying his King is not a small act for the Prince of the Summer Fae — it costs him his position in the court structure he was raised to inherit. He does it anyway. Both men arrive at the same destination (willing to destroy everything they have for her) through completely different routes, which is what makes the MFM dynamic here more interesting than a simpler version of the trope.

I was spellbound by their roles, destinies, and need of each other
“Dark Master’s Kiss is a page turner! I was spellbound by Ariana, Quinn and Lucas — their roles, destinies, and need of each other. I was engrossed into their life stories, the way they interwoven and being a part of that journey.” — Colleen W., Amazon AU
An intensely good story — passion, lust, laughter
“Such an intensely good story with passion, lust, and laughter. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next!” — Carmen B., Amazon US
HE FALLS FIRST FAQ
Does “he falls first” apply to both heroes, or just one?
Both, but differently. Quinn’s feelings are visible earlier and expressed through direct protective action; his centuries of emotional control make Ariana’s effect on him more conspicuous. Lucca’s feelings are more contained initially — royal training — but his willingness to defy his King is the unmistakable signal of how far he’s fallen.
Is the heroine indifferent to the heroes for most of the series?
No — “he falls first” here means their certainty precedes hers, not that she’s cold throughout. Her wariness is reasonable given the captive/captor dynamic and the institutional threats both heroes initially represent. As trust is established, her feelings develop clearly.
Do the heroes ever compete against each other for her, or do they eventually cooperate?
Both. Early tension between Quinn and Lucca reflects their different courts and different interests. By mid-series, they cooperate — the trio’s combined power requires it. The series also has MM content between the two heroes.
Is the series complete?
